EAST LOTHIAN COMMUNITY HOSPITAL
MEET THE ARTISTS
Patients, staff and members of the community in East Lothian have participated in selecting and interviewing artists for a range of commissions designed to flood the hospital with artworks and installations that interest, inspire, intrigue and comfort people spending time in the building. Our small team of artists have been selected for the quality of their work, their proposed approach to working at ELCH, and their commitment to meaningful community engagement. The team are presently researching their individual projects, spending time with stakeholders and building ideas which will ultimately take physical form.
NEON, led by Mark Nixon and Viliina Koivisto, will deliver an ambitious and visually striking permanent sculptural work inspired by the legacy of John Muir for installation in the main concourse of East Lothian Community Hospital. The work will enliven the atrium and subvert the clinical feel of the hospital, providing a playful and thought-provoking focal point for staff, patients and visitors.
SANCTUARY & SANCTUARY GARDEN
Artist Lindsay Perth has been invited to deliver a whole-environment artwork for the Sanctuary within East Lothian Community Hospital where people will be afforded space for ‘time out’, and provided with contemplative internal and external creative focal points that offer comfort and peace in times of emotional intensity.
Edinburgh-based artist Juliana Capes will work with local communities to develop inspiring artworks inspired by the interplay of art, science and nature for permanent installation within internal courtyard spaces in the Outpatient Department of East Lothian Community Hospital.
